COMMUNION

Before Jesus died on the cross, he had a special dinner with his friends.  He picked up some bread and broke it into small pieces for his friends to eat saying, “This is like my body that will be broken for you.”  Then he poured a drink and passed it around saying, “This is like my blood which will be poured out for you.”

His friends were confused. Why was Jesus saying this?  Jesus was telling them that he knew he would soon be arrested, put in jail, beaten and put on a cross to die.  He was willing to do this as a perfect sacrifice for our sins so that we could be forgiven and friends again with God.  And then, of course, he came back to life and rose from his grave eventually ascending into heaven to sit on the throne to the right of his father, God.

The sharing of the bread and drink helps us remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us!  We also share the bread and drink (communion) as a church, a gathering of those who believe in Jesus, after we have thought about our lives and how well we are living for Jesus because all who believe live within his family forever!

PRAYER

God speaks to us through the Bible, His Word, and we can speak to Him!  We can tell him what we’re thankful for and what we need.  He is always listening, always loving and always caring.  He will always answer our prayers with a “yes”, a “no, that’s not best for you”, or a “not right now.”  And we can pray for our family, friends, anyone!
